Governor Perry is currently the leading contender in this race. Therefore, everyone is attacking him. Every little thing he did in the past are popping up such as the HPV requirement that Rep. Bachmann brought up. Bachmann accuses Perry of being “bought” by Merck or the drug company that manufactures Gardasil.
It seems like Bachmann is doing everything she can to stay in the spotlight. Bachmann is simply throwing random accusations just to be heard. She went on the Today Show to further discuss the issue. She also left a statement saying that the injection of the vaccine caused a girl mental retardation. After a while, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the CDC immediately corrected Bachmann's false statement.
After Bachmann's statement about the vaccine causing mental retardation, I think she might be out of the race for me. She can't just go on public television saying things like that. If she's going to be next president, she must have conclusive evidence proving her claims. If she becomes the president, she has to be credible and cautious of her words.
Nonetheless, I do agree with Bachmann that government should not be allowed to force teenagers to have this vaccine. These vaccines could be harmful.
Moreover, Gov. Perry's short lived executive order just shows the power of money or how things "work" in the government. Perry's order is questionable. Does he really care about these girls or was it the money he was after?
Issues such as these just highlights my mistrust in the government. Everyone just wants to be nominated or remain in office so he/she does things to stay in power. Everyday I question government officials' credibility along with their true intentions.
